Are you at Risk for Diabetes?
There are nearly 21 million Americans with diabetes, but nearly one-third of them do not know they have it. Below are major risk factors for having diabetes. If you have any of these risk factors, schedule a diabetes screening soon.
- Are you 45 or older?
- Are you under 65 and get little or no exercise?
- Are you overweight (body mass index greater than 25)?
- Does a member of your immediate family (parents or siblings) have diabetes?
- Have you had a baby weighing more than 9 pounds or were you diagnosed with gestational diabetes during your pregnancy?
Answered "Yes" for one or more questions
If you answered "Yes" for one (1) or more of the above diabetes risk factors, you may be a candidate for a glucose blood test to screen for diabetes.
