The glucose test is used to evaluate blood sugar levels. It may be used to diagnose or screen for diabetes and to monitor control in patients who have diabetes. Life Line Screening offers a fasting plasma glucose test as one way to screen for diabetes and pre-diabetes. The glucose test is sometimes referred to as blood sugar or blood glucose test. The American Diabetes Association has published the following categories in assessing diabetes risk.

Glucose Screening Recommendations
- The American Diabetes Associations recommends a glucose test every 3 years starting at 45.
- The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends screening for type 2 diabetes in adults with high blood pressure or high cholesterol levels.
Diabetes and Cardiovascular Disease
Diabetes and cardiovascular disease are strongly linked. In fact, 2 out of 3 people with diabetes die from heart disease and stroke. Diabetics have heart disease death rates and stroke rates 2 to 4 times higher than adults without diabetes – all the more reason to have glucose tests conducted if there is a history of diabetes in your family or if you have questions about your overall health presently.
