As others said, this study doesn't necessarily decrease the consumption of soda. Only at this place. People buy elsewhere, bring their own. The study ought to have included what they bought instead of soda, like did coffee, juice or tea go up? Did sales of only soda go down? Waste of money study by those who want to control others behavior. If the health police believe so sincerely that soda is bad for you, then why is this cafeteria still offering it? The key is "revenue neutrality". Government budgets have to be cut so that they have to prioritize spending and not waste it on frivolous new laws.

There is a school of thought that says too many Caesarian sections are performed. I propose that Brigham and Women's perform a study in which pregnant women are slapped by their obstetricians if they desire (or need) Caesarians. The data can then be tortured to show that this reduces the incidence of Caesarian sections.

While putting a $50 per bottle tax on a Coke will cut down on my purchases. What should be happening is someone create a Button that you could push that applied an 220 volt shock to those people who dream up and have the authority to put this type tax on items.. Like they wanted to add a new huge Gasoline tax per gallon, to stop people from buying Gasoline. Show me the Button, there is a lot of BHO types which need the Button pushed.

This study is as dumb as dumb gets. The only thing this study proves is if you increase the price of soft drinks, alot of people "can't afford them".
Our state and federal governments is run by nothing more than the "rich" and they don't pay for anything, people like me, the guy next door or the kids in "public" schools. Aren't you tired of taxing us working people yet, or are you just getting started. I guess after the money is gone, to pay the taxes, then you'll want our blood, such as in "WORK-CAMPS", like Hitler and Europe. Maybe even like the Communism and Russia. "Change rides a pale horse and all hell follows him"....
At this rate, how long will we last, or our children, or their children.

Did anyone ever think that they just stopped buying soft drinks there, and brought drinks from home? How did raising the price of cigarettes do with consumption? People cross state lines to get lower taxed smokes, they began rolloing their own, and then of course they are spending money they probably cannot afford like $60.00 for a carton of Marlboros. Taxing something to kill it does not always work... you still buy gasoline don't you?

Although the imposition of a tax on soft drinks would reduce consumption, that form of social engineering is best left to the type of tyrannical political regimes that embrace socialism, Marxism, and communism. Closed societies and subjugated "citizens" make the best culture for forced compliance to the wishes of the oppressors. At last check, we were still a somewhat free society.

Wouldn't education be more respectful than nutrition Nazis forcing good habits on citizens? Are these taxes really in our best interest, or are we contributing to the revenue of local, state, and federal accounts?
