Osteoporosis Screening for Men
According to a USA Today story, the American College of Physicians recommends that men 65 and older should get tested for osteoporosis. Although the condition strikes 6 percent of men by the age of 65, society tends to ignore men’s risk.
Factors that can put men at higher risk include lack of physical activity, smoking, low dietary intake of calcium and vitamin D, and some prostate medications. And osteoporosis doesn’t just lead to broken bones: Men who fall and break a hip are much more likely to die in the following year, according to the article.
