Testosterone and Bone Health
Though testosterone is typically associated with the muscle on a man’s frame, it plays a role in maintaining his bones, too. Low testosterone is another factor that puts you at risk of developing osteoporosis.
Men’s testosterone levels normally decrease with age. Certain medical treatments, such as steroid medications or cancer treatments, can also reduce your testosterone.
Signs and symptoms of low testosterone in men include:
- Erectile dysfunction and decreased sex drive
- Decrease in facial and body hair
- Breast development
- Decrease in muscle mass
- Fatigue and depression
If you’re concerned about your testosterone levels, talk to your doctor. You may benefit from testosterone replacement therapy, which is available in injections, skin patches, gels, and other forms.
