A patient may notice no symptoms of atrial fibrillation and may not be aware of having the condition until it’s identified through screening or physician examination.

Or the patient may notice any of the following symptoms:

• Feeling of a racing heartbeat
   
• Tightness in the chest
   
• Feeling that the pulse is too rapid, too slow, pounding or fluttering
   
• Dizziness or fainting
   
• Confusion
   
• Difficulty breathing
   
• Weakness
