Bury Yourself Between the Pages of These Summer ReadsSummer is fast approaching, and with the warm weather comes the chance to relax on the beach or patio with a hot new book. Many books are slated to be published in the late spring and summer of 2009, and you're likely to find something to catch your attention, whether you're seeking a light adventure or deep thinking. Here are a few titles to check out:

Sag Harbor, by Colson Whitehead
Pulitzer Prize finalist Whitehead sets this funny, coming-of-age novel in the summer 1985 in a predominantly black community on Long Island, where young Benji Cooper relaxes on a break from being one of the few African-American students at an exclusive New York prep school. One writer said this novel "reads like summertime in a book."

Age is Just a Number: Achieve Your Dreams at Any Stage in Your Life, by Dara Torres
Swimmer Dara Torres' life story contains many astonishing highlights, from setting a world record a few weeks after giving birth to participating in her fifth Olympics (in which she won three silver medals) in her early 40s. In her book, she shares her thoughts on overcoming uncertainty and conquering difficult goals. Even if you're not a swimmer, you may find yourself setting your own goals after this inspirational memoir.

The Legend of Sigurd & Gudrun, JRR Tolkien
In this previously unpublished work - which the author wrote before his classics The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings - Tolkien retells old Norse epics. If you're a fan of Tolkien - or ancient sagas in general - this one will keep you busy this summer.

Dead and Gone, by Charlaine Harris
The ninth entry in the Southern Vampire Mysteries - which serve as the basis of the hit HBO series True Blood - finds heroine Sookie Stackhouse caught up in the usual web of vampires, werewolves, shifters, were-panthers, and perhaps even more sinister beings.

Inherent Vice, by Thomas Pynchon
The reclusive master of puzzling novels releases a new book, set at the end of the 1960s. Don Sportello gets caught up in a mysterious underworld where - as usual in Pynchon's books - he encounters cryptic characters who may or may not be connected.
