Independence, OH (PRWeb) - In a June 15th press release, it was reported that Minnesota Congressman Erik Paulsen (MN-03) proposed a resolution to improve public awareness of Peripheral Arterial Disease (P.A.D.) and to improve its diagnosis and treatment.  The press release stated that most Americans are unaware of the dangers of P.A.D.

As stated in the press release, "Nine million Americans have P.A.D. including approximately 275,000 Minnesotans," said Representative Paulsen. "We have made great strides in reducing the burden of heart disease in America, and addressing P.A.D is a critical part of the solution."

Life Line Screening agrees.  In 2009 alone, Life Line Screening identified more than 26,000 people who have had abnormal P.A.D. findings according to their Ankle-Brachial Index (ABI), the gold-standard test for PAD. Watch a video of our PAD Screening.

In addition, another almost 5,000 people were unable to complete the P.A.D. screening due to arterial stiffness.  Each person who had an abnormal finding or were unable to complete the test were referred back to their doctors where they could be fully evaluated and treated, possibly avoiding a stroke or heart attack altogether.

Often symptomless in its early stages, P.A.D. raises one’s risk for heart attack, stroke, amputation and death.

Life Line Screening is the largest provider of P.A.D. screenings in the nation.   Visit our website to assess your risk for Peripheral Arterial Disease.
