September is Peripheral Arterial Disease Awareness Month
September is Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) Awareness Month and Life Line Screening is proud to promote the PAD Coalition's educational efforts. Coordinated by the Vascular Disease Foundation, the PAD Coalition is an alliance of more than 80 leading health groups, government agencies and corporations united to improve the health and care of patients with PAD.
Here's what you can do to support this year's campaign:
- Sign the Stop PAD Petition: Medicare will pay to treat a heart attack or an amputation caused by PAD but will not pay for a simple, non-invasive test to diagnose PAD in those at highest risk for having the disease -- a test that can easily identify PAD patients so that evidence-based risk reduction therapies can be initiated. Help us expand reimbursement for PAD testing by signing the Stop PAD Petition. Visit www.padcoalition.org/petition. REMEMBER: You can get your PAD screening at Life Line Screening. Make an appointment today!
- Help us inform women about PAD: This September, the PAD Coalition and WomenHeart: The National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease are joining forces to reach women - the family health decision makers - about PAD. To get a free supply of the new brochure Women & PAD: What You Need to Know, send your mailing address to info@padcoalition.org.
- Recruit your local faith-based organization to spread PAD messages: Each year national and local church congregations educate high-risk individuals about PAD at the community level. A free church kit containing "Stay in Circulation: Take Steps to Learn about PAD" church bulletin inserts and cardboard fans can be ordered at www.padcoalition.org/amec.
- Educate clinicians, the public and patients about PAD detection and management: Utilize the PAD Coalition's slide library, reproducible patient tools and other resources available at www.padcoalition.org to educate your community about PAD.
Life Line Screening provides the gold-standard ankle-brachial index test to check for PAD.
