The
Society for Vascular Surgery issued a position statement on screening that says that "...ultrasound vascular screenings have proven to be accurate in detecting vascular disease and individuals 55 years of age or older with cardiovascular risk factors may benefit from preventive screenings for vascular disease."
William R Flinn, MD*, head of vascular surgery and the Maryland Vascular Center at the
University of Maryland Medical Center and professor of surgery at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, reports that vascular screening for carotid disease, abdominal aortic aneurysms, and peripheral arterial disease can save lives.

Life Line Screening offers vascular screening as part of its Stroke, Vascular Disease and Heart Rhythm Package. It includes screenings for all three conditions recommended by Dr. Flinn and a screening for atrial fibrillation - another known cause of stroke.
